Tickets: What to Do After the 2026 Drops
The official LA28 ticket site says Drop 2 was the final general public ticket drop of 2026. The July registration deadline and August purchase windows are past. For 2027, LA28 has announced first-come, first-served Olympic sales without the draw process; exact sale information and availability should be checked on the official site.
Paralympic tickets will also go on sale for the first time in 2027. The Paralympic Games are scheduled for August 15–27, 2028. Keep the two event calendars separate when choosing travel dates.
- Pick a small set of preferred sports and sessions, plus alternatives.
- Set a ticket spending limit before entering a sale. Compare the offered seat, session and checkout total.
- Read the seller’s cancellation, transfer and resale rules before purchasing.
- For hospitality, compare the package inclusions individually. Accommodation and transfers should only enter your budget if the package explicitly includes them.
Understand the Venue Zones Before Choosing a Base
LA28 groups venues into zones. Use its zone guide and Games plan to locate your specific events. The plan can change, so recheck before booking a non-refundable trip.
- DTLA: includes the LA Convention Center and DTLA Arena.
- Inglewood: includes 2028 Stadium (SoFi Stadium), with Olympic swimming and the opening ceremony, and Intuit Dome for basketball. This is separate from Hollywood.
- Pasadena: includes Rose Bowl Stadium and Rose Bowl Aquatics Center. It is a separate zone from the Valley.
- Long Beach: coastal venues; check the individual sport and venue rather than assuming one transit stop serves every event.
- Beyond Los Angeles: the current plan places softball and canoe slalom in Oklahoma City. Preliminary football venues include San José, San Diego, Columbus, Nashville, New York and St. Louis. These require separate travel planning.
Try to combine sessions in the same zone. For different zones, include the full door-to-door journey, security queues and a buffer between sessions. A map distance is not a reliable estimate of a Games-day trip.
Where to Stay: Compare the Whole Trip Cost
There is no guaranteed cheapest booking month or neighborhood. Start comparing once your dates and venues are clear. Properties release rooms on different schedules, so an unavailable July 2028 date may simply be outside a hotel’s booking window.
- Downtown: compare it when several sessions are in DTLA or nearby transit corridors. Metro access does not mean a direct train to every venue.
- Pasadena, South Bay and other areas: consider them when they fit your event locations. Check the actual station or bus stop, transfers and final walk from each property.
- Hotels versus rentals: compare taxes, cleaning charges, deposits, minimum stays and cancellation deadlines for the same dates and guest count.
- Flexible reservations: record the last free-cancellation date and whether payment is due now or later. A low nightly headline can still produce a high total.

Flights: Watch the Airline’s Booking Window
Airline booking windows vary. Begin monitoring summer 2028 schedules during 2027 rather than assuming every carrier opens the same dates in July. Compare live fares when your dates become available; the first fare released is not guaranteed to be the cheapest.
Compare LAX, Hollywood Burbank (BUR), John Wayne (SNA), Long Beach (LGB) and Ontario (ONT) only where their routes fit your trip. Add baggage, connections, airport transfers and arrival time to the comparison. A cheaper flight can lose its advantage after a long transfer.
Getting Around: Current Metro Fares and Games Plans
Use Metro’s maps and schedules for current routes, and recheck Games-specific services closer to 2028. The K Line does not run directly from Downtown to SoFi Stadium; transfers and a last-mile connection are part of the journey.
For current SoFi events, Metro publishes a SoFi Stadium Express route via the LAX/Metro Transit Center on the C or K Line. That current event service should not be treated as a confirmed Olympic timetable.
As checked in October 2026, Metro’s regular fare is US$1.75, with a US$5 daily cap and US$18 seven-day cap when using an eligible tap payment method. Two-hour transfers are included under Metro’s rules; cash fares do not earn the caps. These are current fares, not guaranteed 2028 Games prices, and other operators or special services may charge separately.
Build a Budget From Real Quotes
Use one worksheet for the whole traveling party. Keep confirmed bookings separate from estimates so you can see which costs are still uncertain.
- Tickets: actual session prices, quantity and checkout fees.
- Accommodation: full-stay total with taxes and mandatory charges.
