You do not have to travel across Brazil for a month to experience the 2027 Women’s World Cup. For a fan with limited time or a controlled budget, a trip centred on the opening match can have a clear purpose: arrive, settle in, watch the match and enjoy Rio without repeated airport transfers.

The key is to separate what FIFA has confirmed from what you still need to buy. The opening-match date and stadium are confirmed. Your seat, Brazil’s opponent, the total cost of your trip and your own team’s route are separate questions.

This guide provides a five-night planning template. It does not assume that you have secured a ticket or that match-day transport arrangements are final.

What is confirmed about the opening match?

FIFA’s opening-match FAQ identifies Thursday, 24 June 2027, at Estádio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil will play, with the opponent listed as to be confirmed in the information checked for this article. The final is also scheduled at Maracanã, on 25 July 2027. FIFA opening-match and final FAQ.

The tournament runs from 24 June to 25 July 2027. Its eight host cities are Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo. FIFA host-city information.

Importantly, FIFA has already published the tournament match schedule. Advice saying that no schedule exists needs updating. Brazil’s other group matches are assigned to São Paulo on 29 June and Brasília on 4 July. Staying in Rio does not let you follow all three Brazil group matches without changing cities. Choose between the opening match and following a team

A Rio opening-match trip suits someone who wants the atmosphere of the tournament’s first day and is happy to build the visit around Brazil’s confirmed fixture.

Following another national team requires a different decision. Confirm qualification and the team’s assigned match cities before treating Rio as its base. Do not book an itinerary around a predicted group or an assumed opponent.

There is another important distinction: opening match and final are not part of the same short visit. They are a month apart. A five-night June trip should not be sold as an itinerary that includes both.

A five-night itinerary with space to settle in

The template below runs from 22 to 27 June 2027: six calendar days and five nights. It leaves a full day in Rio before the opening match. Its sightseeing suggestions are flexible activities, not bookings or guarantees about event-day access.

Date Suggested plan Planning purpose
22 June Arrive in Rio and check in Avoid making the match depend on an arrival-day flight
23 June A light sightseeing day; check the stadium journey Resolve practical questions before match day
24 June Opening-match day, if you have a ticket Keep the day centred on the confirmed fixture
25 June A flexible Rio day Leave room for rest and weather changes
26 June Another sightseeing day or optional confirmed activity Enjoy the destination without adding a city transfer
27 June Check out and depart Allow time for the airport journey

Only 24 June in this table is a confirmed match date. The other entries are this guide’s itinerary suggestions. Do not assume another Rio fixture will fall on your free day; consult the actual match schedule before buying additional tickets.

If flight times make 22 June impractical, adjust the nights rather than removing all your arrival buffer. A smaller trip with a workable schedule is better than a six-day plan that only works on paper.

What is happening with tickets?

As checked on 13 October 2026, FIFA’s ticketing FAQ says sales will begin toward the end of 2026, with multiple sales phases. It directs buyers to FIFA.com/tickets, where fans can currently register interest. The checked FAQ does not specify the exact opening day, every purchasing process or a complete price table. FIFA ticket-sale timing FAQ and FIFA ticket hub.

Registering interest is not the same as buying a ticket. Nor does a hotel reservation give you a stadium seat.

Follow links from FIFA’s own ticket hub when sales open. Compare the ticket category, session or match identity, fees and conditions before payment. A seller’s claim that a package is “official” is not enough on its own.

Compare the whole accommodation journey

For this visit, compare a small number of properties using the same test:

  • Can you verify the property’s address and reservation terms?
  • Is the full price clear, including compulsory charges?
  • Does the room work for your travel party, including any accessibility needs?
  • Can you describe the trip from the property to Maracanã and back?
  • Does its cancellation deadline give you enough time to resolve your ticket plans?

Do not choose accommodation only because its listing says “near the stadium.” Check an actual route and the walk involved. Present-day transport information is a starting point; tournament operating hours, crowd arrangements and temporary changes must be checked closer to travel.

For a late finish, decide beforehand how you will return, what you will do if your preferred option is unavailable and where you will keep your phone charged. This is practical preparation, not a claim that every area or route offers the same conditions.

A transparent sample budget—not a forecast of tournament prices

This hypothetical solo-traveller example uses USD to make the arithmetic easy to compare. Actual accommodation and other spending may be charged in Brazilian reais; use the rate and payment fees available when you book.

Cost assumption Five-night / six-day allowance
Room: $90 per night, assumed all-in × 5 $450
Meals: $30 per day × 6 $180
Airport and local transport reserve $120
Contingency reserve $100
Planning subtotal $850

This does not include international flights, the opening-match ticket and ticket fees, travel insurance, visa costs where applicable, checked baggage, paid attractions or shopping. The $90 room assumption is not a quoted Maracanã-area hotel price or a claim that rooms will be available at that rate.

To make the worksheet yours, replace the room allowance with a real cancellable quote, then add your actual flight and the official ticket price once available. If a couple shares the example room, its five-night cost is $225 per person before individual expenses. If you travel alone, you bear the full $450.

A second city would need its own calculation: domestic travel, airport transfers, baggage charges, possible additional nights and the time lost moving between properties. Do not add a flight simply because it looks cheap without those other costs.

Check entry rules for the passport you will use

Your passport nationality matters more than the country you live in. Brazil’s official consular guidance says visitors using US, Canadian or Australian passports have again needed visas for tourism since 10 April 2025, with an e-visa route for those nationalities. Brazil’s official e-visa guidance.

For Jamaican readers, Jamaica appears on an official Brazilian list of visitor-visa-exempt countries. Treat that as a starting point and confirm the current permitted visit and document requirements with the Brazilian consulate responsible for your application or travel. Visa exemption does not remove the need to meet entry conditions. Brazil’s visitor-visa exemption list.

Check transit requirements too. A connection through another country may have its own rules even when your Brazilian entry arrangements are complete. Use official consular guidance for the itinerary you actually intend to book.
